Right, and that is why he is asking about the.Firewire. port and not the eSATA port.

ESATA is useless. With firewire you can actually do stuff like rip recordings off your box or connect it to MythTV or Windows MCE. I love how someone comes here to ask about firewire (which by the way, no one at Mediacom knows jack squat about) and they tell you to use eSATA like it is some sort of equivalent technology. They're nothing alike.

They don't do the same thing. So stop spouting off that eSATA is available! I just tried my PACE TDC787X firewire port 2 nites ago. It was enabled, and Windows XPpro was able to discover it. But I couldn't get anything to record. Not sure if it was a driver problem, or the recording software I was using. The firewire port will allow allow you to record whatever is currently playing on the DVR, whether it is LIVE TV or a recording.
I don't think you can do a 'file transfer' off the DVR to you PC. I'll post the links to the the software that I used later when I boot up my laptop.
I have a PCIe Firewire card installed in my desktop as my recording studio interface unit uses Firewire and USB 2.0 (MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid). My new desktop does not have a USB 2.0 port on the rear I/O panel and the interface unit does not work well with USB 3.0 ports so I'm using the Firewire port and it is working perfectly.
A question, on older OS' we used the 'Legacy' Firewire driver, rather than the default Windows installed driver, for recording studio interface units as it was the most stable and no dropouts. With my new system, I installed the Firewire card and let Windows install a driver.
Windows installed 'Texas Instrument 1394 OHCI Compliant Controller', driver version 10.0.15063.0 with a date of 6/21/2006 which sounds like it installed the 'Legacy' driver. However, I can't find any reference to this driver and whether it is the 'Legacy' driver or not. Anyone have any info?

After some consideration, I'm still at a loss to what the driver really is. In Win 7 there were 3 Firewire drivers listed. One was labeled Legacy the others were not. Windows did not install the Legacy driver by default, it had to be manually selected and installed. I don't remember the dates on them so I can't say what this driver really is.
Not trying to be cantankerous, just trying to find out which one this really is (maybe no documentation available that really says what it is).Did you turn off the one on the MB in BIOS?
