# bescor mp 101 motorized head manual
In manual mode it spins about 340 degrees. It did work on AC power and so I tried it out to see how well it functions. It pans and tilts fairly well. As such I could not operate it on battery power. My product came missing part of the battery terminals. Pan speed was able to keep up with players running down field and unit is still working! NiZn batteries are a must of sporting events.

I'll try to update this post after this weekend of lacrosse games. If you are not comfortable using NiZn batteries, then certainly look at standard or rechargeable Alkaline instead of NiMh batteries if you want faster head movement.CheersUpdate: 11/14/16 - Video taped four games this weekend. Time will tell if this approach damages the motor. Warning: I believe the motor in this product is rated at 6 volts so using NiZn batteries probably is pushing the upper limits of the design, especially when the batteries have just been recharged (I think they are at 1.8 volts at the start of the discharge curve). I purchased 4 NiZn AA batteries and a charger on Amazon for about $21 - these new batteries have a much higher voltage than NiMh batteries. Here are the summary results for a 340 degree pan with speed control slider on remote at max position.NiMH AA: 47 seconds Alkaline AA: 40 seconds NiZn AA: 33 secondsConclusionBy using rechargeable NiZn AA batteries, I was able to increase the panning speed by about 30% over NiMH batteries (47-33)/47. Looking at the motor drive circuit and various hack posts, I realized that the motor speed is dependent on the motor voltage so before I went as far as finding a replacement motor, I ran some experiments using different types of AA batteries (Alkaline 1.5 volts, NiMh 1.3 volts and NiZn 1.6 volts). I used 4 Amazon AA NiMH rechargeable batteries which have a typical voltage of 1.3 volt (so four in series is about 5.2 volts). So every shot required me to zoom out and zoom back in once the goal was in the field of view. I purchased for lacrosse and discovered on the first weekend of use, I was unable to pan fast enough as the ball moved down the field.

But if you need something fast that will travel well, look elsewhere.ΔΆ How to Improve Pan Speed with 1.6 v NiZn batteries or Alkaline batteries The kit including the head, power supply, remote, and long cord is nice. If you want something low-cost and don't need speed or durability, the Bescor is probably okay. Ultimately we opted for a VidPro motorized pan/tilt device that cost more. Plus the plastic housing doesn't appear very durable. The remote control isn't as handy as the joystick controls on competitive models, so combining pans and tilts to follow action is awkward at best. We found that the Bescor is not fast enough. The device needs to be able to track action as it moves up and down the playing area.
